Hey there! Just want to give a quick shout out to all the new subscribers who read my most recent piece entitled “CONTEXT: Dems Cozy Up To Palantir As Peter Thiel, Humanity's Enemy, Nears Tech Dictatorship Goals,” and decided to sign up. I’m extremely grateful. I’m also pumped because I had a feeling that people are hungry for the type of context that is too often missing from our commercialized system for informing the public. Folks really responded to the concept of the Context series (very much in its infancy!).

Of course, plenty of people are out there providing context to world events, but I feel as though my perspective is unique. I am a media reform activist who is a co-founder of the Media and Democracy Project (MAD). We’re an all-volunteer grassroots organization striving for a better informed electorate. My work with MAD has made me realize some things about what is required to turn our information ecosystem around. Changing the world for the better with healthier, fact-based information starts with you. Yes, you reading this right now.

We are in a hot Information War with foreign adversaries and homegrown billionaires. Most Americans do not realize this. And we all subject ourselves daily to endless sources of propaganda online—propaganda that confirms our priors while serving the oligarchs’ goal of dividing us. We need a culture change to bring about more media literacy and pro-democracy outcomes.

To fight back we must spread as much healthy information as possible. To do this we have to build community, have each others’ backs, and welcome the victims of disinformation with open arms. Otherwise, the Broligarchs win.

To build this community I am going to start going live on Substack every Monday at 9pm ET. We’ll discuss the remaking of the world order with all the context I’ve found in the preceding week. We’ll talk about our sources of news and how we can spread fact-based information as widely as possible. And come hell or highwater we’ll have a damned good time doing it, too, because if you wanna get through to anybody these days you have to be entertaining.
