Personally, I'm not blocking people until they prove themselves toxic. Bluesky seems naturally to be a pretty friendly platform. Most people will not attract trolling.
Of course, it is essential that it is POSSIBLE to block people -- which Mush/Xitter no longer allows. But I think we can generally get away without having to do so very often
It is essential to block but not en mass by anonymous people especially ones as reckless as this dude who is squashing lots of people. He is going for klpout, obviously. The more people he blocks the less competition he has in the topical areas.
Sure there are a few people at the top of his lists who are obviously trolls.
No I am not going to take the time to list all of the excellent journalists he blocks. The default should not be intellectual cowardice and blindfolds. Would you let a total stranger blindfold you in a new city? Probably not.
I will subscribe to Curmudgeon's Substack as you are the only other person in this thread who is not going for the bait.
Hello, all. I just reviewed the entire list. This person, John Doe, is not being truthful as regards the list I provide in my post. Of course “John Doe” also ignores the spot in my post where I tell people to check it out for themselves. Trolls and disinformers, whether they are sponsored by Russia, other foreign nations, Elon Musk, or are simply regular folks, exist to wear you down, e.g. “John Doe” posting this and forcing me to go read a block list with hundreds of names because I care about the integrity of the information I share. Please continue to use the block list if it serves your needs. And understand what “John Doe” is doing here. The troll’s tactic is to claim censorship when there is none. It’s like saying closing the door to your house and pulling the curtain when there is a person spewing hate and lies outside is a form of censorship, and not a form of self-preservation. I will leave John Doe’s post up, and my reply, for educational purposes.
Oh, haha, I just looked at John Doe’s bio and his entire deal is being upset about troll blocklists. To me, this is an obvious attempt by a professional troll to sow doubt. Let’s all move on. 👍
Nope. This anonymous guy "comfortab.ly numb is awful. He blocks tons of informative thoughtful people and has created a form of censorship that is every bit as ugly as that which he purports to be blocking. I have found numerous quality journalists on his various lists. It is hard to believe it is accidental, At best, a grab for klout on his part. Do you even know anything about this dude? There are a few short block lists from a very few highly reliable people who I know and have watched for many years but some random anonymous account is not going to tell me who and what to read. Shameful.
